October, you may have read somewhere, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual international campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer.
The Next Media Services Mission Tagline goes, “We Inform to Transform,” and we believe that any transformation we can influence can only be impactful enough if we start with ourselves. Because of this, the October 2021 Next Media Talks were themed along the lines of cancer awareness, where we hosted Hilda Kemigisha Mwesigwa, an 11-year Cancer Survivor and member of the Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organization (UWOCASO), as well as Dr. Dickson Happy Muhindo, the Head of Clinical Services at TMR International Hospital.
Hilda shared with us her story of detecting her Cancer early, the trauma of living with Cancer, the quick decisions that needed to have been made (she had a week between learning of the Cancer and going under the knife), her journey to recovery, and much more. On the other hand, Dr. Dickson offered the Transformers all the technical information we asked about and more. One message, however, stood out – make all efforts possible to catch cancer early. Check, check, check!
Earlier in the day, the lady Transformers had been offered an opportunity to take free breast cancer screenings courtesy of our cordial partnership with Norvik Hospital.
According to the World Health Organization – WHO, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 700,000 deaths caused by breast cancer globally in 2020.
The Next Media Talks are a monthly gathering by Next Media Services’ Transformers to celebrate milestones, award achievers, reflect on the journey to date, and discuss pertinent issues.
