NBS TV and Million Trees International Partner to Restore Uganda’s Forests

NBS TV has been at the forefront of environmental sustainability, using its platform to champion causes that drive sustainable development across Uganda. Through the “15 Million Trees” campaign, an initiative under the Taasa Obutonde (Save the Environment) program, NBS TV is committed to reforesting Uganda by planting 15 million trees across the nation.

In a powerful new partnership with Million Trees International (MTI), NBS TV will help restore 50 hectares of forest land within the Kasyoha Kitomi Central Forest Reserve. This collaboration focuses on expanding Uganda’s forest cover on land designated by the National Forestry Authority (NFA), reinforcing Uganda’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate resilience, particularly in light of recent environmental challenges. In 2023 alone, Uganda lost over 68,300 hectares of forest land, a stark reminder of the urgent need for reforestation.

Dr. Jibril Semakura Owomugisha, Founding Director of Million Trees International, noted the crucial role of such partnerships in ecological recovery, saying, “While Uganda is working to restore 24% of its forest cover to pre-1990 levels, partnerships like the one with NBS TV are essential to making these goals a reality.”

Next Media’s Deputy Group CEO, Joe Kigozi, also emphasized the impact of the “15 Million Trees” campaign, stating, “At NBS TV, our mission is to inform and transform, with climate action central to this commitment. By working alongside government bodies, NGOs, and the private sector, we are actively contributing to a greener, more sustainable Uganda.”

As NBS TV advances toward its goal of planting 15 million trees, this collaboration with MTI is a testament to the power of media to not only inform but also mobilize change and champion climate action in Uganda.
