After an illustrious career spanning over 14 years with us at Next Media, Joe Kigozi has stepped down from his role as Deputy Group CEO and Chief Strategist to embark on new professional pursuits. His transition marks an evolution in his journey, one that will see him take on new challenges while maintaining a connection with us in a consultancy capacity.
Reflecting on his time with us, Joe shared, “My 15-year journey here has been an extraordinary adventure, filled with challenges, triumphs, and the constant inspiration of those around me. I’m so grateful for the opportunities and the chance to ignite a passion for growth in others. As I embark on my next chapter, I carry with me the lessons learned and the enduring spirit of Next Media. Thank you for everything.”
A Legacy of Growth and Innovation
Joe’s journey with us began in 2008 as a sports presenter for 442, a role that set the stage for his remarkable rise through the ranks. From Corporate Affairs Manager to Chief Marketing Officer, and later Chief Strategy Officer, he played an instrumental role in shaping our trajectory.
Under his stewardship, we experienced groundbreaking milestones, including the major rebrand of NBS TV, the migration to digital broadcasting, and our expansion from a single brand to 17 brands. His ability to innovate was evident in initiatives like the NBS Owakabi campaign, which propelled NBS TV’s market reach, and later evolved into Sanyuka Naffe, cementing Sanyuka TV as a household name.

Transforming Ugandan Sports Broadcasting
Joe’s impact extended deeply into sports broadcasting. As the first General Manager of NBS Sport, he led the brand’s rise to prominence, making it Uganda’s leading home for sports coverage. Under his leadership, Sanyuka TV became the first indigenous broadcaster of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, covering a record number of games and revolutionizing local football presentation.
Additionally, he spearheaded the successful broadcast of the World Cup Trophy Tour during its stop in Uganda in 2018, further solidifying our position as a leader in sports coverage.
Mentorship and Leadership
Beyond corporate growth, Joe’s legacy is reflected in the many individuals he has mentored. A firm believer in nurturing talent, he played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of many young professionals at Next Media. His leadership extended beyond marketing and business strategy, as he chaired key committees such as the Disciplinary and Procurement Committees, ensuring ethical and operational excellence.
As he transitions to new professional opportunities, Joe leaves behind a well-structured and empowered team. His rise from presenter to Deputy Group CEO serves as a powerful testament to our commitment to career growth and internal talent development.
Continuing a Legacy
Though stepping away from his executive role, Joe will continue to be part of our journey as a consultant on special projects and franchise model solutions. His expertise, leadership, and vision remain invaluable to us, ensuring that his impact continues to shape the future of Next Media.
We look forward to seeing Joe thrive in his new endeavors while maintaining a lasting collaboration with him in the years to come.
