Next Media and Buganda Kingdom Partner to Champion Environment and Culture

Next Media Group CEO Kin Kariisa met with the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, to explore strategic collaboration between the two institutions. The meeting, held earlier today, focused on two core areas: environmental sustainability and the preservation of Buganda’s cultural heritage.

Central to the conversation was the #TaasaObutonde campaign, Next Media’s nationwide initiative advocating for environmental conservation and responsible waste management. Both parties agreed on the urgency of environmental action, especially in light of Uganda’s changing weather patterns. With aligned values, the Kingdom and Next Media committed to joining forces, mobilizing resources, and engaging the public to protect our shared environment.

In addition, the conversation turned toward storytelling and innovation. With the upcoming Next Media Content Creator Hub, the team discussed opportunities to collaborate on producing rich, authentic content that tells the Buganda story—its traditions, values, and people—with creativity and cultural integrity.

The Katikkiro applauded Next Media’s continued investment in technology, youth engagement, and platforms that serve beyond entertainment—platforms with purpose. He expressed deep appreciation for the Group’s mission of “Informing to Transform,” acknowledging the impact of media that not only reports but also uplifts and empowers.

This partnership signals a forward-looking relationship between the Buganda Kingdom and Next Media, built on shared goals, impactful storytelling, and community transformation.
