The 2nd edition of the State of the Digital Economy (SODE 2025) opened this morning at Next Media Park, marking another step forward in Uganda’s journey to fully integrate digital into everyday life.
The conference brought together leaders from government, the private sector, and content creation to reflect on progress since last year’s call to turn policy into action. Among the speakers, Hon. Nyombi Tembo, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), and Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director of the National IT Authority of Uganda (NITA-U), shared deep insights into how trust, infrastructure, and policy are shaping Uganda’s digital future.
Their presentations underscored the role of digital trust, robust infrastructure, and forward-thinking policy in establishing the rails on which the country’s digital economy will run for years to come. Key takeaways included the reaffirmation that broadcast media is as digital as ever, the increasing digitization of mainstream life, and the urgent need to equip Uganda’s youth to lead in this evolving ecosystem.
The conference also highlighted the importance of collaboration across all sectors. From government initiatives to private sector innovation, and from creators to citizens, working together is essential to achieving a digital economy that truly works for all Ugandans.
SODE 2025 demonstrated not only how far Uganda has come in its digital journey but also the shared responsibility and potential to ensure that the country’s digital future is inclusive, sustainable, and empowering.
