The 2022 FIFA World Cup Final was a highly anticipated event, with football fans globally excited to see which team would be crowned the champion. It was no different in Kampala, Uganda, where DStv Uganda teamed up with NBS Sport, our station founded to Champion Ugandan Sport, to set up a viewers’ party attended by hundreds in the city suburb, Najjeera.
The public viewing was held at the popular hangout spot, Nexus Lounge, where fans were able to gather together and watch what turned out to be probably the best-ever World Cup final on large screens.
“Working with our partners at DStv Uganda to put this viewers’ party was a huge undertaking, but seeing the excitement and enjoyment on the faces of our attendees made all the hard work worthwhile. We couldn’t have done this without the amazing teamwork from the entire Next Media team and all our partners, and we are already looking forward to more of these in the future”, said Shafik Nekambuza, the NBS Sport Brand Manager. He added,
There were also stages for artiste and comedian performances such as Vinka’s, seating areas for over 1000 spectators, and other amenities that helped people bond over football and the great music.
The atmosphere was electric, with fans cheering and singing for their favourite team and sharing the tournament’s excitement. All the fun was broadcast live on NBS Sport, with Amal and KK bringing fans live updates from the World Cup and fan excitement.
For many in attendance, watching the 2022 FIFA World Cup final was a tense, exciting and thrilling experience, with the match turning out to be the typical culmination of months, and a tournament, of intense competition and drama for both die-hard football fans and those that just enjoy watching high-level competition.
