It was all joy in Matugga this afternoon as the International Boxing Association President Umar Kremlev arrived to launch the construction of an international boxing academy. The academy, worth 5m USD, will be built on 10 acres of land offered by the Buganda kingdom.

Kremlev, who was in the company of, among others, Africa Boxing Confederation President Bertrand Mendouga, was welcomed by the Russian Ambassador to Uganda, H.E Vladlen Semivolos, Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi, Siyabulela Cecil Nkwalo of South Africa, Azamia Omo-Agege of Nigeria, who had arrived at Entebbe Airport earlier this morning with all the moments broadcast live on NBS Sport.

The 40-year-old IBA President, Kremlev, met with stakeholders in the sports sector led by State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang, Uganda Boxing Federation Patron Captain Mike Mukula, and NBS Sport General Manager Joseph Kigozi at Serena Hotel during a breakfast meeting. Kremlev reiterated his commitment to constructing a state-of-the-art boxing academy for Uganda.

“Africa is a unique continent, and Uganda is a unique country because they glorify boxing. Boxing is very popular in Africa, [which] is why some of the greatest boxers in the world (current and past) have roots in Africa,” Umar Kremlev.

After the breakfast meeting at Serena Hotel, Kremlev headed to Matugga in Nansana Municipality, where he laid a foundation for constructing the 5-million-dollar boxing academy.

“I am happy to launch the construction of the academy and happy to meet you, my boxing brothers and sisters.”

The Russian tycoon also paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, and the Katikkiro of Buganda Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga in Bulange, Mengo.

NBS Sport delivered comprehensive live coverage of this event, a broadcast that helped boxing fans across Uganda to enjoy the events as they transpired.
