The atmosphere at the #NextMediaPark on Thursday was filled with celebration as we warmly welcomed back Andrew Kabuura following his appearance on SuperSport’s UEFA Champions League coverage in South Africa.
Andrew, who serves as Head of Sports Broadcast at Next Media, recently made history as the first Ugandan journalist to host UEFA Champions League coverage live on SuperSport during the tournament’s semi-final stage broadcasts from Randburg, South Africa. His hosting received widespread praise across Uganda and beyond, with many celebrating the confidence, authenticity, and cultural pride he carried onto one of the biggest sports broadcasting stages in the world.
One of the standout moments from his broadcasts came during his sign-off in Luganda: “Banange musule bulungi. Omupiira mugulabye, kansuubire mugwagadde nnyo,” a moment that deeply resonated with audiences back home and became a proud reflection of Ugandan identity on a continental platform.
Back at the #NextMediaPark during #NextMediaTalks on May 8, 2026, Andrew reflected emotionally on the reception he received from fellow Transformers and the culture that continues to define Next Media.
“What you guys have just done might look usual, but it is very personal to me. Thank you very much, it means a lot,” he shared.
“I have never experienced this in my life. This culture where all feel the same, where someone goes out and everyone feels they are part of the family, it is absolutely crazy.”
His return became more than a celebration of personal achievement. It reflected the environment we continue to build at Next Media, one where talent is supported, growth is encouraged, and teams rally behind each other’s success both locally and internationally.
Andrew also used the moment to encourage young professionals across different fields to remain committed to their craft.
“That profession you are doing is actually a real journey,” he said. “I want to tell every young journalist, marketer, IT person, name it… stick in there. I promise you, it will work out one day.”
He also appreciated the support and trust he continues to receive from the leadership at Next Media.
“I want to thank our Group CEO for being more than a leader, but a father. Whenever I ask for time away to represent our nation and broadcast to the continent, there is never doubt. He simply says, ‘Go.’”
That support was echoed by our Group CEO, Kin Kariisa, during the session as he reinforced our belief in growing both company brands and personal brands side by side.
“We’ll give you a platform, we’ll give you space for you to make more money than what you earn here. But as you grow our brands, also grow your own personal brand,” Kin said. “So long as it is clear what you want to pursue, we will support you.”
Andrew’s achievement continues to inspire many across Uganda’s media industry, showing what is possible when talent, consistency, cultural identity, and opportunity come together.
At Next Media, moments like these continue to reflect the culture we believe in, one built on trust, growth, support, and belief in people. Because when one Transformer rises onto a continental stage, the entire family rises with them.
