Next Media Commended for Its Impact During Uganda’s COVID-19 Response

On March 27, 2021, during one of the most challenging periods of the COVID-19 pandemic, we took our prime-time news bulletin to the gates of Mulago National Referral Hospital in support of Uganda’s national response efforts.

At a time when uncertainty, fear, and misinformation had spread across communities, the broadcast became more than a news bulletin. It became part of a national effort to keep Ugandans informed, aware, and connected during a crisis that had affected lives across the country.

Years later, that moment continues to be remembered for the impact it created.

Reflecting on the role played by Next Media during the pandemic, Colonel Dr. Henry Kyobe Bosa, who served as Uganda’s National COVID-19 and Ebola Incident Commander, shared a heartfelt message of appreciation.

“When COVID-19 nearly overwhelmed all our capacities, on this day, March 27, 2021, without pay, you came out to support the cause in a syndicated prime-time news bulletin anchored on the gates of Mulago,” he shared. “The impact of this on the pandemic changed things in the weeks and months ahead.”

The broadcast brought together our journalists, anchors, producers, camera operators, and technical teams who showed up with one shared purpose: serving Uganda through credible and timely information.

During the pandemic, our platforms became part of the national conversation around public health, awareness, and responsibility. Through television, radio, and digital platforms, we worked to ensure that Ugandans across the country and in the diaspora had access to real-time updates, expert guidance, and verified information during a rapidly changing period.

As we continue to grow and evolve, moments like these remain part of our journey and our responsibility as a media ecosystem committed to informing, transforming, and serving the public during unprecedented times.
