This Week at the #NextMediaPark (April 20 – April 26, 2026)

It was a week defined by purpose, presence, and meaningful engagement across the country. From classrooms and communities to Parliament and major events, we continue to bring stories to life while staying close to the people at the heart of them.

The week opened on a strong note with engagement in education and youth empowerment. The #Nextars, alongside NBS Plus, visited Kabojja School in Kampala, giving students a firsthand experience of the media space. The interaction offered young people a chance to see new possibilities and sparked conversations around future careers.

In sports, NBS Sport paid tribute to the late former Kalangala Woman MP, Hellen Nakimuli, through a special feature on NBS Inside Sport. Known for her advocacy for women in sports, her voice was once again brought to audiences, reminding many of the role she played in championing inclusion and opportunity.

Midweek, the nation paused to honour her life. Coverage by NBS followed the return of her body to the National Unity Platform headquarters in Kavule, as well as a special parliamentary sitting held in her honour. Leaders, family, and supporters gathered to pay their respects, reflecting on a legacy of service and dedication.

The same day also saw coverage of the launch of the China Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Project in Kampala, where a USD 1 million donation was announced to support refugees. The initiative highlighted ongoing efforts to improve living conditions for vulnerable communities.

Beyond the capital, Salam TV spotlighted impactful community work. In Luzira Kirombe, Salam Charity extended support to a beneficiary with rent, food, and essential supplies, providing immediate relief and stability. In Rwampara District, visits to Kikonkoma Muslim Primary School under the Smart Community Program reinforced the importance of investing in education, while engagement sessions with community leaders focused on strengthening social and economic development.

In sports development, NBS Sport covered the two-day AFCON 2027 workshop held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, bringing together stakeholders from Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. The workshop marked progress in preparations for the continental tournament, with key agreements setting the stage for what lies ahead.

At Next Media Park, one of the biggest highlights of the week unfolded on Thursday with the grand finale of The Next Big Voice. Hosted at the Next Conference Centre, the event brought together talent, energy, and anticipation, with Lukas Blacc emerging as the winner. The competition once again demonstrated the power of media in discovering and nurturing new voices.

Friday carried both national and entertainment significance. In Parliament, NBS covered proceedings on the Appropriation Bill 2026, a key step in shaping the country’s financial direction. Discussions around the Protection of Sovereignty Bill also brought together political parties and civil society, reflecting active participation in national decision-making.

Later that evening, the mood shifted back to Next Media Park, where the first-ever Friday Night Radio event, powered by Smirnoff and hosted by DJ Bugy, brought a fresh experience to audiences. The blend of music, games, and interaction created a vibrant space for connection and entertainment.

In Isingiro District, Salam TV covered the groundbreaking ceremony of the Dr. Anas Abdunoor Kaliisa Memorial Classroom Block, marking the beginning of a project that will support future learners with improved facilities.

Saturday was equally impactful across different spaces. NBS and AfroMobile partnered in covering the Rotary District 9214 Conference and Assembly, which concluded with the Royal Governors Ball after three days of engagement. Our Group CEO, Kin Kariisa, was recognised with the prestigious Service Above Self Award, highlighting leadership and commitment to community service.

In Rwampara, Salam Charity continued its follow-up visits with beneficiaries, ensuring that ongoing programs remain responsive to real community needs. Meanwhile, Sanyuka TV introduced a new weekend show, Weekender with Macona and Gloria Destiny, bringing fresh energy and conversation to Saturday mornings.

The week closed on Sunday with nationwide participation in Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 52nd Birthday Run at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. Covered by NBS, the event drew thousands and brought people together under the theme “Run for Hope,” reflecting unity and shared purpose.

Across all these moments, one thing remained clear. Whether informing, engaging, or supporting communities, we continue to stay present where stories matter most.

And this is only part of the journey.
