This Week at the #NextMediaPark (April 28 – May 4, 2026)

At Next Media, the week was shaped by powerful national conversations, community moments, and stories that brought people together. Across the country, from Parliament to cultural spaces, we stayed present where it mattered most, ensuring that every key moment reached the public clearly and in real time.

The week began with a strong national focus on governance and policy. Through NBS, we followed stakeholders appearing before the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026 in Kampala. The discussions opened up critical perspectives, giving Ugandans the opportunity to see democracy in action. Transparency remained at the centre, as every argument and concern was brought to the public.

In the legal space, we continued to track significant developments. Coverage by NBS at the Butambala Chief Magistrate’s Court highlighted the appearance of Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi and his co-accused on terrorism charges, with proceedings adjourned to May 14. The case drew national attention, and audiences remained engaged as the process unfolded.

Midweek, the country paused to reflect on justice and accountability. At Ggaba, NBS and Sanyuka TV covered the sentencing of Christopher Okello Onyum for the murder of four toddlers. The moment carried deep emotion, as residents gathered to witness the outcome. It was a powerful reminder of the role of justice in acknowledging community pain and restoring a sense of closure.

The same day also marked progress in Uganda’s agricultural sector. Through NBS, we covered the commissioning of the Anti-Tick Vaccine Production Plant by President Museveni. The launch signalled a major step toward livestock self-sufficiency, with scientists recognised for their contribution to research and innovation. For farmers, it represented hope for improved productivity and sustainability.

Beyond policy and development, we continued to celebrate culture and thought leadership. At Makerere University Business School, NBS Plus brought audiences into the vibrant Cultural Meet Gala, where young Ugandans expressed identity and pride through fashion and performance. Meanwhile, NBS and AfroMobile covered the launch of Francis Kamulegeya’s autobiography, offering audiences insights from a seasoned leader whose journey continues to inspire.

Friday brought a moment of national recognition during the International Labour Day celebrations in Buikwe District. Through NBS, we captured the awarding of medals to 50 Ugandans for distinguished service. Among those recognised was Hajji Kaliisa, Managing Director of Salam TV and Salam Charity, whose work in community development earned him the Diamond Jubilee Medal, a moment shared through Salam TV.

Political discourse remained active as well, with NBS covering Democratic Front leader Mathias Mpuuga’s address on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill. His message reached the nation directly, reinforcing the importance of diverse voices in shaping national direction.

In sports, NBS Sport continued to spotlight excellence. At the Uganda Rugby Annual General Meeting and Awards Gala, Ernest Akorebirungi was recognised as Rugby Sports Journalist of the Year in the Radio and TV category. The recognition highlighted the growing impact of sports journalism in telling the stories that matter.

The week also created space for conversations around leadership and inclusion. At Kampala Serena Hotel, NBS covered the SheWalks Corporate High Tea, where top female CEOs came together to share experiences and insights. The event highlighted the strength and influence of women in leadership, while inspiring the next generation.

As the weekend unfolded, the focus shifted to entertainment and youth engagement. Through NBS Music, Sanyuka TV, and AfroMobile, we brought the Masheda Meat Fest in Buyala to audiences across the country, capturing a lively mix of food, music, and shared experiences. At Ndere Cultural Centre, NBS and AfroMobile partnered in covering Abeeka Band’s “Roots and Vibes Live” concert, celebrating five years of consistency and contribution to Uganda’s music scene.

Young people also had their moment in the spotlight, as NBS Plus and NBS Youth Voice brought St. Peter’s Naalya prom night to screens nationwide. It was a celebration of growth, confidence, and milestones, captured in a way that allowed others to share in the experience.

The week concluded on a reflective and spiritual note. Salam TV covered the Alhashimiyah send-off for Hajj pilgrims under the Salam Road to Makkah campaign 2026 in Kololo. Families and community members gathered to offer prayers and support, marking the beginning of an important journey of faith.

Across all these moments, one thing remained constant. At Next Media, the commitment to staying present where stories unfold continues to guide every step. From informing the nation to amplifying voices and capturing lived experiences, the work goes on.

And this is only part of the story.
