From national leadership moments and cultural observances to community initiatives, sports partnerships, and inspiring conversations, Next Media continued to bring Uganda closer to the stories that matter during the week of June 1 to June 7, 2026.
The week opened with NBS providing comprehensive coverage of the vetting of ministers before Parliament’s Appointments Committee. Over two days, the country followed the approval of forty-two ministerial nominees as Uganda prepared for a new legislative cycle, reinforcing the broadcaster’s commitment to keeping citizens informed on matters of national importance.
In sports, NBS Sport announced its partnership as the official media partner for the Olympic Day Tooke Run 2026, an initiative promoting healthy living, nutrition awareness, and Uganda’s banana value addition agenda. The partnership reflects Next Media’s continued support for campaigns that combine sport with community development.
Wednesday saw the country commemorate Uganda Martyrs Day, with NBS bringing audiences live coverage from Namugongo as Catholic and Anglican faithful observed the annual celebrations under Ministry of Health guidelines. At the same time, Sanyuka TV went live from Masaka, the home district of several Uganda Martyrs, giving viewers historical context and a closer connection to one of Uganda’s most significant religious observances.
The day also carried an emotional moment as Sanyuka TV covered the final send-off of musician Master Parrot in Kamengo, Butembe Village. Family, friends, fellow artists, and fans gathered to celebrate his life and musical legacy, allowing audiences across the country to join in remembering one of Uganda’s entertainers.
At the Next Media Park, Salam TV welcomed Dr. Rouhallah Dehghani, Principal of Al Mustafa Islamic College, for discussions focused on advancing Islamic education and strengthening community outreach through future collaborations. The meeting highlighted the value of partnerships that create opportunities for learning and social impact.
On Thursday, NBS broadcast the State of the Nation Address live from Kololo Ceremonial Grounds as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially opened a new legislative cycle. Millions of Ugandans followed the constitutional address as the country’s leadership outlined priorities for the years ahead.
Friday brought breaking news coverage as NBS reported on the collapse of a three-storey building under construction along Kisota Road in Kisaasi. The broadcaster kept audiences updated as rescue teams, police, and KCCA officials responded to the incident while investigations into the cause got underway.
The same day, Bigenda Bitya hosted KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki for a special conversation at the Next Media Park. During her visit, she shared insights into ongoing city developments and plans to improve service delivery in Kampala before touring the park and meeting Group CEO Kin Kariisa.
Leadership and mentorship took centre stage on Saturday as NBS covered the Journey to the Boardroom Grand Finale Dinner at Sheraton Kampala, celebrating young professionals who completed a leadership mentorship programme designed to prepare the next generation of corporate leaders.
Also on Saturday, the Rotary Club of Kigo Seven Lakes Golf marked a significant leadership transition as our Group CEO Kin Kariisa officially handed over the club presidency to Maria Odido for the 2026-2027 Rotary year. The handover celebrated a year characterised by impactful community service, innovation, and philanthropy while opening a new chapter of Rotary leadership.
The week concluded on a sombre note as Next Radio and NBS Sport joined the rugby fraternity in mourning the passing of Pirates Rugby Club player Sailor Sydney. Tributes from teammates, friends, and supporters reflected the unity of Uganda’s sporting community in honouring one of its own.
