NBS TV personalities have been nominated for ten awards at the upcoming ACME Awards. NBS, Uganda’s leading current affairs TV station, is a TV station premised on having a presence in each of Uganda’s key regions, with its content, especially news bulletins, often characterized by live reports from anywhere across Uganda at any time.
The list of Nominees from Next Media’s NBS Television
NBS’ Canary Mugume, Jamila Mulindwa Nuwaha, Thomas Kitimbo, Godfrey Badebye, Benson Ongom, Swaleh Swalik, Victoria Bagaaya, Paul Kayonga Richard Olwenyi and Joshua Mujunga are the journalists whose stories will be up for awards in various categories, including Arts, Education, Energy and Extractive Industries, Features, Health, Investigative Reporting, Justice, Law and Order, Land and Property, and Public Accountability.
NBS has been on a roll in previous editions of these awards, having won up to 5 awards at the 2021 edition. This year’s ACME Awards will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2022, at the luxurious Mestil Hotel in Kampala.
“Nominations such as these are more than just the plaques or the rewards that come with them for our stars. They also speak to the quality of our content and the quality of mentorship that Next Media is giving our young journalists,” said Next Media Head of Corporate Affairs, Desire Derekford Mugumisa.

NBS, dubbed ‘the Political Command Centre,’ is also widely credited for its outstanding contribution to shaping Uganda’s political landscape. Through its traditional programming, key conversations by key Government and Opposition figures are moderated daily.
Former Next Media employees Daniel Lutaaya and Solomon Serwanjja also have stories they compiled while still with NBS also nominated in various categories.

According to multinational market research and consulting firm Ipsos, in 2022, NBS is relied on by 7 out of every ten households for current affairs. The station’s flagship show, “NBS Morning Breeze,” is the most-watched breakfast program in the country. NBS also dominates the key daytime viewing periods with its popular lunchtime update, “Live at 1.” In addition to its news programs, NBS also offers a wide variety of entertainment programming, including hit music shows like “After5,” “Katch Up,” and “SNL.”
