Next Creata Hosts Creata Connect Second Edition, Unites Podcasters for Africa Podcast Day

Young podcasters from across Uganda and the region gathered at Next Media Park as Next Creata marked Africa Podcast Day through its second edition of Creata Connect. The community series brought together creatives to celebrate, grow, and explore practical ways to monetize their podcasts.

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, served as the guest of honor. He commended young Ugandans for using digital channels like podcasting to tell the nation’s story.

“I have interacted with many young people here at Creata Connect who are using media and communication tools for development and positive communication,” Dr. Baryomunsi said.

He assured the gathering of government support, adding: “We shall continue to create a digital ecosystem that is supportive. We are ensuring that internet and data are affordable, putting in place the required infrastructure, and making devices affordable for podcasters.”

Ibrahim Bbosa, Head of Public and Internal Relations at the Uganda Communications Commission, also addressed the creatives. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to fostering innovation while protecting public interest.

“As the Uganda Communications Commission, we remain committed to working with you to ensure that Uganda’s communications environment continues to support innovation while safeguarding the public interest,” Bbosa said.

Alan Kasujja, veteran broadcaster and newly appointed Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, shared insights from his remarkable journey, including his time as host of BBC Africa Daily. He encouraged podcasters to prioritize collaboration and audience connection.

“Understand your audience and lock them in,” Kasujja advised. “Do not talk about things your audience has absolutely no idea about.”

British-Ugandan spoken word artist George the Poet also addressed the gathering. He applauded Next Creata for creating a platform where podcasters can exchange ideas and build meaningful connections.

“Events like Creata Connect keep us together,” he said. “They help us stay in touch with a new generation and give us the opportunity to share everything we have learned. When we unite, we are able to share knowledge and build together. That is very important.”

Now in its second edition, Creata Connect continues to fulfill Next Creata’s mission of nurturing creative talent. The platform brings podcasters and creatives together to learn, share ideas, and connect, ultimately supporting career growth and long-term sustainability in Uganda’s growing creative economy.
