“Omumanyi wa Salam” 2022 winner drives home in a brand-new car.

Salam Television, through its charity arm, Salam Charity, on Sunday, May 15, 2022, climaxed the 2022 edition of the “Omumanyi wa Salam” quiz competition, where Hassan Ssegawa emerged number 1, driving home a brand new Toyota Passo Setta.

Having garnered 14 points on the final day (second-placed Juma Kakande managed 12), Ssegawa was joined by his wife and child in celebration at the glamourous Next Conference Centre-held event.

The 2022 edition of the “Omumanyi wa Salam” competition attracted forty participants, who competed over five stages in the knock-out format. Week 1 saw 20 knocked out, with four knocked out in Week 2 to send sixteen into the quarter-finals in Week 3. At this stage, eight progressed to the Week 4 semi-finals before the final four faced off in the Grand Finale in Week 5.

2022 winner Hassan Ssegawa extended his gratitude to the Salam Television team, sponsors, and participants before adding, “I am so grateful and excited to be the winner of Omumanyi Wa Salam 2022; surely the car will help my family and my progress in life.”

First-Runner-Up Juma Kakande won a land title, Second-Runner-Up Said Abdallah a motorcycle, while Third-Runner-Up Ismail Kasule won a Television set.

Salam Television Managing Director, Hajji Karim Kaliisa, congratulated the finalists on thriving in their respective positions. He further called upon prospect sponsors to join the cause before announcing the competition’s continuity plan, “We want to take ‘Omumanyi wa Salam’ to the next level – we are going regional in 2023, and I urge more companies to come on board as we go embark on this challenge.”

Desire Derekford Mugumisa, the Next Media Services Head of Corporate Affairs, gave the closing remarks on behalf of Group CEO Kin Kariisa. He thanked all participants, staff and partners for being part of the initiative.

Mugumisa also called on the participants to use the platform to positively impact their communities, “Don’t be the competition winners and participants that went quiet after the show was done – you have earned profiles and a platform good enough to cause a change in your communities; come up with ideas, and we shall support you every way we can.”

The 2022 edition of Omumanyi wa Salam was powered by MTN Uganda in partnership with Gaso Motors, Millenium Estates, Mak Boda, Plascon, Sums Foods, and Movit Uganda.

Following the success of the first season of Omumanyi Wa Salam that happened in April 2021, where Ssebagala Nasser emerged as the winner taking home a brand-new car (Sienta), and Wakisa Hassan emerged the 1st runner, who won himself a land title, the initiative impacted many lives and families.

‘Omumanyi wa Salam’ is a Ramadhan season televised Quiz show aired on both Salam Television and NBS that involves youth across the country competing in categories such as current affairs, sport, and Islamic knowledge, among others, with prizes such as a brand-new car, land title, motorcycle, TV sets, among other goodies.
