The comedian that is Kalela naturally decorates his life story with humour. A statistician-turned-comedian, Kalela recently scooped himself an opportunity with our mainstream TV station, Sanyuka Television, and he simply cannot stop talking about his new show, called ‘Music Jam Tunnyuke,’ which airs every weekday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Growing up in a large family of 37, Kalela, born in Kamuli District, had to earn a living immediately after school. Because of this, he found himself in the comedy field, a job he took on with patience and passion.
According to Kalela, the pay was far from satisfactory, but he chose to play the long game.
“My first appearance at Comedy Store earned me UGX 75,000. From that day on, however, I have never had to negotiate my pay with them, but it keeps increasing courtesy of my hard work.”
Kalela is thankful for comedy because it has propelled him to where he is now. It is also evident that as he evolves into his TV duties, comedy is still a big part of him. Music Jam Tunnyuke is carefully crafted to keep the viewers glued, and Kalela is the rib-cracking in-charge on the show from start to finish every single day it airs.
When asked about his new family, Kalela is only oozing praise. The Next Media Park, he says, is a very good work environment that he is happy to be part of, “The Next Media team is so welcoming – for the few weeks I have been here, I can see there is teamwork, and they love seeing each other succeed. They support where need be. Pushing the brands is one of the things that I have seen this company very intentional about, both online and on air.”
Welcome to the winning team, Kalela! With you, we are much stronger.
